If there were only one book you could recommend to someone just starting on their journey as a leader, what would that be? For me, it has to be Peter Drucker's The Effective Executive. While most Leadership Development books focus on how to manage OTHERS, the focus of this classic is on managing ONESELF. Drucker deals very comprehensively with the underlying practices that make a leader effective:

Managing TIME
Focusing on CONTRIBUTION
Leveraging STRENGTHS
Setting PRIORITIES
Taking effective DECISIONS

A simple search on each of the above will throw up an almost endless list of books, articles, courses and other interventions. With few honourable exceptions, much of what one will find in these books was very EFFECTIVELY covered by Drucker in The Effective Executive. Drucker very convincingly makes the case that effectiveness CAN be learnt, and that it MUST be learnt.
